Moist wound healing
Moist healing, also known as "wet therapy", is a modern method of care for acute and chronic wounds. Its principle is to maintain optimal moisture, which promotes tissue regeneration, prevents scab formation and significantly shortens healing time. Moist dressing reduces pain, allows longer intervals between dressings and increases overall patient comfort.
The method is suitable for a wide range of wounds – from surgical and postoperative, through leg ulcers and pressure sores, to abrasions and burns. The use of the right type of dressing is always individual, depending on the type of wound, the stage of healing and the patient's condition. Our doctors will recommend the appropriate material and the correct procedure so that you can safely manage the care at home.
Benefits of moist healing
A modern approach to wound care that delivers fast, effective and patient-friendly results. Moist therapy is ideal for both acute and chronic wounds. Below are the key benefits of this method that make it the first-line choice in modern care.
Contact usRychlejší a méně bolestivé hojení
Ochrana před infekcí a nežádoucím zápachem
Pacient obdrží doporučení k výběru vhodného materiálu a návod k bezpečnému postupu, čímž získává větší soběstačnost a pohodlí.
How wet dressing works
Smart materials that actively support natural healing
Modern moist wound dressings are not just passive wound protection – they actively participate in wound healing. They maintain optimal moisture, temperature and pH in the wound, creating an environment that promotes regeneration, prevents scab formation and reduces the risk of infection.
Thanks to their structure, these bandages allow:
- absorption of excess secretion without the wound drying out,
- retaining bacteria and toxins that could slow healing,
- protection against mechanical damage during movement,
- maintaining a constant temperature, which is crucial for cell division and tissue repair.
Each type of wound requires a different approach – a different degree of absorption, adhesion or ability to form a gel film. Therefore, the selection of the appropriate material is always individual. We take into account not only the type and size of the wound, but also the healing phase, skin sensitivity, any allergies and the patient's general condition.
A properly selected material accelerates healing, reduces pain and eliminates the need for frequent dressings. At the same time, it creates an effective barrier against external influences - water, dirt and microorganisms. This allows the patient to feel safe and comfortable even outside the medical facility.
From history to the present
From honey to bioactive gels – moist healing has its roots in antiquity
Although moist therapy has only been widely developed in modern medicine in recent decades, its roots go back deep into history. Even in ancient Mesopotamia and Egypt, doctors intuitively understood that wounds heal better when they do not dry out. They used honey, milk, sugar, resins, or crushed seeds to moisten them, which had both disinfectant and nutritional effects.
The ancient Egyptians mixed medicinal poultices of honey and vegetable oils, while the Greeks and Romans made extensive use of wine tinctures and various natural balms. These traditional approaches have been the basis of therapy for centuries, albeit without a deeper understanding of biological principles.
Modern moist healing builds on this knowledge and reshapes it with 21st century technologies. Today's materials - hydrogels, alginates, polyurethanes or foam dressings - are designed to respond precisely to the needs of a specific wound. They contain active ingredients that support regeneration, enzymatic cleansing and the formation of new tissue.
Historical intuition has become a sophisticated treatment method with fixed rules, which is today considered the gold standard in the treatment of poorly healing wounds.
